WHAT NOW NOW WHAT
After completing the series “Apartogether”, worked on throughout the month of April as a direct response to my observations and feelings stemming out of the early days of the pandemic, I now find on this other side, as recovery begins to seem possible, a different kind of commentary towards the “why” and/or “why not” of events, moments, and ideas that are surfacing and emerging into a “new normal”.

After so many months of not traveling, everyone is itching to get going again. But some places, like Amsterdam, are rethinking their desire of host the same throngs of tourist to the level it use to. Unique moments like this are being questioned about many thing. Amsterdam itself is presently reevaluating ] relocating its sex workers to different parts of the city, and maybe making it illegal for visitors to buy cannabis in its’ coffee shops.

Making art is an interesting thing. At times you find yourself truly struggling to resolve a piece which then becomes everyone’s favorite. For me the most amazing is when you whip something together lickity split and find you really love its simplicity. You also often then wonder what might be wrong since it came together so easily.

According the Wikipedia - A flying pig is a symbol of an impossible event coming to pass. The popular vernacular, saying something will happen “when pigs fly”, or “when pigs have wings" is traditionally used to mean that the specified event will never occur. However, clearly they never took Trump’s behavior after losing the election into account.

What is it about all these old goats and asses who just keep following like a horse to water? As written in the New York Times (though not verbatim): Leading Republicans (yes you know who you are) have continued to rally around Trump’s refusal to concede the election, and even worse have declined to challenge the false narrative that the presidency was stolen from him. Mitch McConnell stated on the Senate Floor that Trump was “100 percent within his rights” to turn to the legal system to challenge the outcome. Yet, in his first remarks post Biden’s win, McConnell celebrated the success of Republicans who won Election in the House and Senate. Yet, in the very next breath, he treated the outcome of the presidential electino — based on the same ballots that elected those Republicans — as unknown.

Two things you can still do during a pandemic … eat takeout Chinese food (yum yum") and go on a picnic with a friend. Continue to celebrate moments full of small bounty.

The pandemic for many people has bestowed a moment for a total re-evaluation of their lives. From the desire to move out of urban environments, parents opting to home school, the ending of broken relationships, and much much more. The one thing we can all be certain of is that the stress levels being impinged upon us will continue to take their toll. As depicted in an article by the BBC, “The fear is that our behavioral norms will have become infected by distress and hardship, that we will emerge more individual and less together. The hope must be that our society, like a virus, is mutating into something stronger”. In other words, we all must continue to work exceptionally hard to not let our individual stains turn into Catty behavior.

It was recently announced that Kamala Harris will be Joe Biden’s running mate for this upcoming election, and no sooner was the announcement made than many male voices began to stir the pot with unkind descriptions about her personality. We’ve seen this over and over again and frankly I am hopeful that the strong population of women living in our country are at last willing to say that enough is enough and not allow these men to ice us out any longer. Oh … I’m sorry … was that too shrill?

It’s basic research: Shoot an arrow in the air. Where it lands, paint a bullseye”. Unfortunately, sounds a lot like Trump’s statement today politicizing the death toll from Coronavirus. He said, “If you take the blue states out, we’re at a level that I don’t think anybody in the world would be at”. Instead of governing for the country, he remains a President only able to govern through the lends of his partisanship.

When the doors of social distancing finally opened a crack, and bars were once again allowing people to actually return — though why exactly I will never understand — it was remarkable the amount of people who clamored to reach the drinking hole with buddies, not wearing masks, and thereby once again spreading the virus further along. What I don’t understand about those unwilling to wear a mask is why they feel so entitled that what they want is more important than a strangers life. To me it is pure and simple — MEAN PEOPLE SUCK — and not wearing a mask is just one way to show your true self.

Placing his ear up to the shell,
we asked him not to ring the bell.
To that he said, “just fake news,
there is no way we can lose.”
“Totally nasty”, was his decree,
tossing shell back into the sea.
“Votes don’t count, ahead am I”,
And with that … another lie.
Shell patiently waded off shore,
towards horizons to restore.
With lawsuits files as he did raved,
Shell turned for a final wave …
… GOOD-BYE!!
